Overview
in a nutshell
The JACKED Content Management System is my ultimate project and goal to complete, and also the biggest project I have ever worked on. An easy way for anyone to manage the content on their site, anything from simple about me pages to complex blogs and online stores, JACKED Manager is my overall dream for the web.
Skills
how I did it
xhtml, xml, Ajax, php, mySQL
Software
what I used to do it
Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, phpMyAdmin
Design
aesthetic point of view
This project has very little true design associated with it, as the menu system is mainly designed to inherit the styles of whatever site it is installed on. However, the logo was redesigned by Cazzu Media, and the icons used are part of the Crystal Clear icon set. Any other styles applied to the Manager not inherited from the enclosing site are used simply for positioning or structural reasons.
Development
how it works
JACKED is based on a theory of a core system allowing multiple modules to be installed into it. These modules can be turned on and off from a main control panel and they can be used for any website activity from creating an online store to creating and maintaining a blog, to monitoring website traffic. The system is based entirely on PHP, using MySQL databases to store data.
So far, every instance of a new module has been created based on a current necessity. For example, the photoGallery module was created when a photo gallery was requested for Jose Sousa Masonry, Inc, and the shopper module was built when a shopping cart and online store were requested for Tanks A Lot, Inc. This has led to some site-specific programming, which is not the goal of JACKED Manager, but hopefully getting stable versions of the more common modules finished will allow for more time to be spent allowing them to be abstracted to apply to any site.
JACKED's current stage of development is very early. The current project is the full abstraction of previously created modules as mentioned above. Next is a working install system for the CMS and for individual modules into the CMS.
Comments
my opinion
The goal of this project is to never be finished. It will always be in development, becoming better and more useful and applicable. It really is my biggest project and in a way, my pet project. I feel as though a lot of my personality is going to become a part of JACKED Manager, both obviously in the messages and displayed text and in the logical flow of the user interface and its processes.
